LUCID

A custom New Tab experience built for clarity, personalization, and visual bookmark management.

Monochrome atmospheric artwork for the LUCID project

LUCID is a Manifest V3 browser new-tab extension by unchartedAli. It replaces the default new tab with a deeply personalizable workspace: visual bookmark boards (Pages & Boards), selectable search engines, background gallery, to-do lists, goals, habits, clipboard, optional Google Calendar, and a collection of Circle Loaders for the preloader.

01 — Overview

Clarity as a product.

Every new tab should feel intentional. LUCID turns the blank browser page into a quiet control surface: clock, date, weather, greeting, quote, searchable boards of saved pages, tasks, goals, and habits — all in one place. The interface supports both light and dark modes, multiple design styles (Dossier / iOS), full localization (English & فارسی), and extensive theming.

Boards act as visual collections of bookmarks. Pages live inside boards. You can drag tabs, quick-save with a keyboard shortcut, import existing Chrome bookmarks, and organize everything with accents, custom backgrounds, and privacy mode.

02 — Features

What LUCID includes

01

Pages & Boards

Visual bookmark manager. Create boards, drop pages into them, set board colors and per-page backgrounds.

02

Smart Search

Search across your boards or fall back to a selectable web search engine. Exact match and scope controls included.

03

Background Gallery

Curated SVG backgrounds (Ocean, Space, Calm, Dark, Minimal, Nature, Abstract, Cities) plus custom uploads.

04

Productivity Surface

To-do list, daily goals, habit tracking, clipboard snippets, recent history, and optional Google Calendar events.

05

Circle Loaders

A set of elegant SVG preloaders (Latitude, Scanline, Aperture, Corona, Helix, and many more) for the first-run experience.

06

Deep Personalization

Design styles (Dossier / iOS), light & dark modes, compact density, language (EN / FA), privacy mode, and export / import of all data.

03 — Design System

Two looks, one system.

LUCID ships with a token-driven design system. You choose between Dossier (editorial, high-contrast, structured) and iOS (softer, more rounded) — each available in light and dark. Tokens control color, density, motion, and typography so the entire surface stays coherent no matter which combination you pick.

First-run wizard. On first open LUCID walks you through language, design style, and optional Chrome bookmark import so the surface feels yours from the start.

04 — Privacy

Local by default.

LUCID stores data in the browser’s extension storage. There is no account, no analytics, and no telemetry. Network requests are limited to features that need them (weather via Open-Meteo, optional Google Calendar OAuth). Calendar data is requested only after you explicitly connect your Google account.

Permissions. Current Manifest V3 permissions: storage, bookmarks, notifications, history, identity. Host permissions are scoped to weather and Google APIs only.

05 — Installation
